Sanskrit Classes - Per Term
Chinmaya Mission Australia offers three levels of courses. You will be able to select the appropriate level at registration. Students must be able to study, practise and complete homework consistently. Regular attendance and commitment for 1hr per week is essential to make steady progress.
All courses will be run via online zoom. Zoom details will be sent once enrolment is complete.
Classes begin Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July 2023.
Course Details
1. Sanskrit Beginners Course
Duration of course: 1.5 Years
Every Saturday 8.00am to 9.00am.
Break during School Holidays, Special Events & Festivals.
Learn the Basics of Sanskrit. Key to learning Sanskrit is attaining a fluent level of understanding of the Devanagari script. Learn to identify, pronounce, read and write vowels, consonants, compound syllables and some basic words. This class will let you get up to speed on this learning, preparing you for the grammar course.
2. Sanskrit Intermediate Course
Duration of course: 1.5 Years
Every Sunday 8.00am to 9.00am.
Break during School Holidays, Special Events & Festivals.
This class is suitable for all who can read, recite and write Devanagari script fluently, having studied the beginners Sanskrit course or being fluent in Hindi, Marathi etc. The focus will be to learn basic aspects of grammar, syntax and vocabulary through stories and regular practice (abhyāsa). Rote memorising is to be avoided. You will learn to translate and construct simple Sanskrit sentences.
3. Sanskrit Advanced Course
Duration of course: 1.5 Years
Every Saturday 8.30am to 9.30am.
Break during School Holidays, Special Events & Festivals.
Suitable for students who have completed Sanskrit Beginners & Intermediate courses or have attained an equivalent level through self-study.
Students will build on intermediate grammar, translating more complex sentences and verses from the scripture. They will learn to join and separate words through a systematic study of sandhi. Students will reach the level where they are able to translate the Bhagavad Gita and selected verses from Mahābhārata and Rāmāyaņa.
