Guru Parampara

Our Teachers

Guru is the very embodiment of knowledge in whose presence the disciple discovers that Light which surpasses all lights (Gukarascandhakarastu rukarastannirodhakrt, andakaravinasitvad gururityabhidhiyate - Skanda Purana, conversation between Lord Shiva and Goddess Uma). गु (Gu) denotes darkness, and रु (Ru) denotes the remover of darkness. He who destroys the darkness (of ignorance) is thus known as गुरु (Guru)

He was, in human form, a pristine glacier of Self-knowledge, the source from whom flowed an eternal river of Vedantic wisdom. This river has flowed on through Swami Chinmayananda, founder of Chinmaya Mission, and the teachers who carry on the Mission's work.
